Your spare bandwidth, paid by the gigabyte.

Most hours of the day, your home internet carries far less than it can. Spareband shares that spare bandwidth and pays you $0.12 for every GB used.

45 GB used $5.40a month

45 GB is about what a typical shared home connection carries in a month. You're paid only for traffic that actually flows, so it depends on your location and demand.

What spare bandwidth is

You pay for your connection's full speed around the clock. Even a busy evening of video calls and a 4K stream uses a fraction of it, and overnight it sits almost empty. That unused capacity is your spare bandwidth.

Spareband puts some of that spare to work and pays you for every gigabyte it carries. Your own browsing and streaming come first.

How it works

  1. Install the appRun it on a computer that stays on at home. It starts on Linux and Docker; Windows and Mac come later.
  2. It shares your spare bandwidthWhen a business needs to load a page from your area, the request goes out through your connection.
  3. Get paidEvery GB counts toward your balance at $0.12. Cash out to PayPal once you reach $5. Payouts open when the invite-only test ends.

You decide when and how much

Set sharing hours, daily and monthly caps, a speed limit, or pause any time. These controls are being built for the first invites.

Straight answers

What do businesses use my connection for?

Seeing websites the way a local visitor does: checking prices, ads and search results in different places. Spareband carries that traffic and blocks known abuse like spam and login attacks.

Who buys the traffic?

Proxy providers, starting with Node4. We'll always tell you who the traffic is sold to.

Can it see my files or browsing?

No. The app only opens an outgoing connection to Spareband and sends requests out to websites. Nothing on your network accepts incoming connections, and your own devices and browsing are never touched. Pause or uninstall any time.

How does $0.12 a GB compare?

It's a flat cash rate for every GB used, paid to PayPal from $5. As of October 2026, PacketStream publishes $0.10 per GB.

Who can join?

Anyone with a home internet connection. VPNs, servers and data-center connections don't qualify, and each home connection counts once: one device per connection.

When can I start?

We're testing with a small group now. Join the list and we'll email you an invite as soon as there's room. Payouts start when that test ends.
